KUALA LUMPUR: Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia has announced the appointment of its new chairman, Syed Maqbul Quader effective November 6.
Its chief executive officer, Datuk Azrulnizam Abdul Aziz is positive that the bank will be in very good hands under Syed Maqbul's able leadership and wide experience.
"His international exposure in particular would be highly relevant for Al Rajhi Bank in our aspiration to be the preferred Islamic financial services Bank," Azrulnizam said in a statement.
A senior banker, Syed Maqbul has vast experience in the area of corporate banking, risk and investment and portfolio management.
His expertise lies in managing startup projects, having been involved in establishing among others, the Corporate Banking Group at Al Rajhi Bank in Saudi Arabia and also the OBU of Chase Manhattan Bank in Bahrain.
Syed Maqbul, 64, served on the Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia Board as an independent non-executive director from August 1 this year. He was formerly the general manager of corporate banking at Al Rajhi Bank in Saudi Arabia.
Syed Maqbul, who holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Dhaka University, has served for over 40 years in the banking industry.
He was vice president of The Chase Manhattan Bank NA in London and Bahrain, and was the group chief risk officer of Qatar Islamic Bank in Doha
