KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd's (Petronas) technology innovation, Hycapure Hg, has won three awards at the IChemE United Kingdom 2013 Awards held at Bolton, UK recently.
IChemE United Kingdom is a professional institution for chemical and process engineers with 38,000 members in 120 countries.
In a statement today, Petronas said the Hycapure Hg, a solid-supported ionic liquid mercury removal technology, won Chemical Engineering Project of the Year Award, Sustainable Technology Award and 2013 Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and
Process Engineering.
"The technology is a result of its collaboration with Queen's University of Belfast, UK and it provides improved solution for mercury removal from natural gas before the gas enters into downstream processing units," it said.
Petronas said the removal of mercury from gas would reduce the risk of health hazards to employees as well as the risk of corrosion and related plant integrity issues.
The Hycapure Hg had also won the Sustainable Technology Award at the IChemE Malaysia 2013 Awards that was held here on Oct 21, 2013, it said.
